Australia will recognise higher education degrees obtained in India

The World is finally coming back to normal after the Covid-19  Pandemic , as the Countries all over the world are now trying to recover from their pandemic loss and focus on their future economic growth.  On Mar 22, 2022, the governments of India and Australia participated in an online conference to plan their future successes together. According to an official report The Australian Government is investing 280 million dollars to boost cooperation with India. This effort will strengthen economic ties and support jobs and businesses in both countries. The funds will be used for collaborative projects in education, business, scientific research, technologies designed to use coal more efficiently, and space exploration.

The main highlight of the virtual meeting came from the education sector as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison joined hands to establish a task force to develop qualifications recognition arrangements between the two countries. This means now the degrees or qualifications earned in India or Australia will have the exact recognition in both the countries. This will help solve key problems faced by thousands of migrants of both countries and this will also enhance two-way mobility.

The two-way degree recognition  will not only help qualified Indian migrants,  but also the international students, and Australians looking to work in India. As a bonus for international students, new arrangements will  truly ease the transition process for students wanting to continue studying in Australia or India , allowing them mobility, web, and in-person blended learning. This is very important for us because of the number of Indian students in Australia. “Mutual recognition means you can do a degree in Australia, and it’ll be recognised in India as well.”Says Mr. Harsh V Shringla, India’s Foreign Secretary.

Many international students and migrants travelling to Australia for study or work have faced this issue where their qualifications and degrees are not recognised or given any weight-age. No matter if they are holding an MBA , or a PHD they end up working as Taxi Driver, farm workers or working in restaurants. The students and professionals had a hard time finding a suitable job but this is all set to change. The new advancement will allow international students to use their completed Indian degrees in Australia, giving them a great career opportunity to travel and work in Australia. It will also reduce the time spent looking for employment as they will be more likely to find suitable positions.

“The task-force will deliver a mechanism for expanding education qualification recognition between Australia and India by the end of the year, with implementation to take place in 2023,” said a statement by Australian Acting Minister for Education and Youth Stuart Robert.

The task-force on the recognition of Australian and Indian higher education qualifications will consult with stakeholders and will seek to identify opportunities to recognise diplomas, degrees and other qualifications that were awarded in India or Australia . It will also make recommendations on ways to improve higher education recognition arrangements.

It will also support the implementation of the Australian Strategy for International Education 2021-2030. This move will serve to strengthen bilateral education cooperation on the recognition of Australian qualifications, to support the sustainable growth of the country’s education services offshore.
